The power, heat, lights, and water have all been working at Good Shepherd since late Sunday, November 4. Thanks to all who were able to help out their neighbors with power and food and water (thanks especially to Arlene & Roy Flury and Sally & Dave Stevens who were of great help to the rector and his family!). Thanks to all who were able to man the church once power was restored. Thelma Barlow, Anne Siemerling, Sally Stevens, Jose and Kathy Trinidad, Bernie Sotter, Lorne Robbins, Chris Palmer, Arlene Flury, and Dorothy Baeder (and probably many others who I didn’t see) were able to offer time to keep clean up the property, keep the church open and offer hot drinks to utility workers. Beginning Sunday and continuing until today, the church has been used frequently by utility and tree workers for a rest stiop with coffee and bathrooms. Thanks to Bernie Sotter, Sally Stevens, Diane Buschel, and Christine and Lorne Robbins for organizing a hot coffee hour! Thanks to Glenn and Sue Hintze for organizing a great Halloween party right before the storm hit and for ensuring that even without power we had Sunday School this past Sunday! I am sure I am missing a few people, but please know we are grateful for all who were able to help out over the last week and a half!
I have personally spoken to most of our members, but not everyone. Land line, cell , and email connections continue to be problematic for me and for many others. If you have not heard from me, its not because I don’t care, its because I haven’t been able to reach you. Please send an email to mead@goodshepherdny.org or call me cell phone 914-471-0260 to let me know if you are ok.
The Shepherd’s Voice Newsletter for November has been delayed due to the hurricane and extended power outage in its aftermath. We plan to publish a short Newsletter next week. If you have any articles, events, or photos you wish to appear in the November issue, please send them to mead@goodshepherdny.org
The December newsletter will be delayed into early December (to allow some time between the two newsletters) and will focus on Christmas.
This Sunday we will offer a blessing of the flagpole at the conclusion of the 10AM service. Sunday is Veterans’ Day. Thanks in advance for Zach Palmer for leading us in the national anthem on his trumpet!
The weekend of November 17-18 is the Stewardship Prayer Vigil & Covenant Sunday. Please sign up this Sunday for an hour of prayer. 10 of the 24 hours have been taken, leaving 14 open signup times. On Sunday, November 18, we will bless pledge cards at both services and offer a full brunch after the 10AM service. The Stewardship mailing was delayed due to the storm, but you whould be getting your pledge cards in the mail early next week.
