Thanks to Bob Velzy for spending several hours doing carpentry on the rectory garage door. The about half of the door did not reach the ground, leaving a gap of an inch that looked to mice like an open door. Many thanks!
Tonight the Awards Dinner Committee is meeting at the church at 7:30 PM. If you are interested in helping out with the Awards Dinner, please come to the meeting.
This Sunday we resume our normal “Sung Mass” – a bit more singing. The Senior’s Group will meet meet this Sunday after church. Paul Miller is “running” the meeting.
Do you want to sponsor a portion of the party for the Bishop’s visitation? Michaelmas & Oktoberfest (Friday, September 28, this year) is one arguably the biggest Holy Day (aside from Christmas and Easter) of the year at Good Shepherd. It is rivaled by Ascension Day (when we have an incredible steak dinner). In 2011 and again in 2012 we will have the Bishop of New York, and he will be making his official visitation at Good Shepherd. It’s a good day to throw a big party. We get a whole pig which costs about $200, and this cost has been supported by a single donor the last two years and will be again in 2012. We also buy commemorative steins that we sell. The steins pay for themselves and for the beer and sausages, and any left over money goes into the Fellowship Fund. The key is that we need the money up front to pay for the steins, the beer, and the sausages. In 2012 we are asking anyone who wants to sponsor the Bishop’s Oktoberfest to donate $50. The bonus is that every sponsor gets 4 steins to take home. If we get 13 sponsors before the Oktoberfest, we will pay for everything in advance, and we will have plenty of steins left over to sell at the event. If you want to sponsor the Oktoberfest, speak to or email Father Matt or simply write a check for $50 to Good Shepherd (memo: Fellowship Fund/Oktoberfest). As of this writing we have 7 of the 13 sponsors we need for 2012.
