Dear All:
As many of you will be aware, and as I mentioned last week, we are having a fun day out fishing/swimming/hiking/eating/lazing (whatever works for you!) at FDR Park on Saturday, August 4th.
We have reserved a section at the Park for the COGS with picnic tables and grilling facilities, with its own parking area. The section is Parking 6F.
Directions
The most convenient access to the Park for where we will be located is from the Taconic Parkway – take the exit for the FDR park – follow the road and bear left when it splits. Further down you will see parking on the right, I am advised, and 6F should be clearly marked.
We will be cooking burgers and dogs, providing disposable plates and silverware, cups etc. We do ask that you bring a side dish for the group if you can and your own beverages.
We aim to arrive at around 10AM but feel free to drop by when it suits you, of course.

Map
Note – Section 6F is not clearly marked on the below Map – we will be located in Parking 6 (shown). Our lot is represented by the disabled symbol, since our zone is also handicapped accessible.

Fees
The cost to park a vehicle is $8, unless you already have an annual pass.
There is a minimal fee for swimming. There are lots of other activities, of course, many of which are free.

Fishing
Here is some needed info on fishing, which requires a little advance preparation.
The cost for a boat rental for fishing is $7 per hour with a returnable deposit of $30 per boat – ALL CASH ONLY.
I am told you can also fish from the edge of the same Mohansic Lake, so do not absolutely need a boat – but perhaps you enjoy the extra challenge!
PLEASE NOTE – if you wish to fish you need a fishing license if age 16 or over.
You can obtain a license online for $5 for the day or get one in advance at Yorktown Town hall for example. Unless you plan to start doing a lot of fishing soon, I wouldn’t purchase an annual license for $29 as it is due to expire end of September. Just note of caution – I thought the online process was a bit confusing (although I obtained mine that way) as it talks about using the online receipt for a limited period as a temporary license until you get the real thing in the mail in 14 business days! You may just want to get it in person at the Town Hall (or Bob’s Tackle shop below) or wait until the week before to get your daily license online and just use your receipt if asked.
You do NOT need a separate Reservoir Access Permit for fishing in the State Park.
See the below for more details.

Fishing Equipment & Bait
The Park does NOT have equipment rentals NOR does it have bait. You need to bring those/go digging for worms in the Park if you have the inclination!
Bob’s tackle shop is a good bet for bait and tackle and you can buy a rod and reel fairly inexpensively at KMART/TARGET, of course. Bob’s store can process your license also, I think – just check ahead.
Bob’s store hours look a little odd – I checked that opening is from pre-dawn until dusk!

Lastly – and it’s important, you know that! – please sign up on the sheet in the Breezeway so we have an idea on numbers.
I think that’s it – apart from LET’S HAVE A GREAT DAY OUT!
Looking forward to it.
Have a great week.
Scott
