Eastertide at Good Shepherd

Sad News: Your Prayers are asked for George and Sandy Parks and their grandchildren and son-in-law.  Their daughter, Deborah Trillo, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2013, and was buried today.  Please keep Deborah and all her family and friends in your prayers.  May God bless her and keep her.

Newsletter articles for April are due by Thursday evening of this week.  There are several events in the next few weeks that are really unique, fun, and designed for you to bring a friend too!!

On Monday, April 8, we celebrate the Annunciation!  Said Mass will be offered at 6PM.  Chowderfest is at 6:30 PM.  The FINAL NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP Game is on that night and if people are still around for tip off, we will show the game on the Jumbotron when it comes on.  That game starts at 9:23PM, so it may be too late, but we’ll be ready in any event.  We also have enough leftover ingredients for pizza that we can probably serve pizza as well.  Come and have a great time!!!

Our Charity Wine & Beer Tasting will be on Friday, April 19, 7PM – childcare is provided.  Treat yourself to a delightful evening of wine & beer tasting. All wines and beers tasted will be available for sale at the event. Proceeds from admission fees, silent auction, 50/50 cash raffle and a portion of wine sales will benefit activities at Church of the Good Shepherd and our outreach programs. Thank you!  In addition to wine & beer, enjoy a variety of appetizers and desserts!  Please Join Us  Suggested Minimum Donation: $20.00 per person/3 for $50.00.

MAY THE FOURTH  / KENTUCKY DERBY: Two great events will be offered at Good Shepherd on Saturday May, 4th.  May the Fourth is International Star Wars Appreciation Day.  We will gather to watch Star Wars Movies, beginning at noon.  Star Wars is obviously very Biblical and includes people who wear monk-like brown robes and speak familiar phrases like “May the Force be with you. / And also with you.”  Very similar to “The Lord be with you. / And also with you.”  We will have a break in our Star Wars action for the Kentucky Derby!!!  The Derby coverage tends to be on from about 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM (yes, we are watching all of the Derby coverage because some of us have already seen Star Wars and you can never get enough Derby!!), so if you aren’t a Star Wars fan, just come for that and if you aren’t a Derby fan but you love Star Wars, just come for the movies.  Wear your best Derby hats, Star Wars costumes, and bring potluck food, beverages, snacks, and that sort of thing.  If anyone wants to collaborate on food, please do – the kitchen is available.  A signup sheet is in the hallway for those who are interested and so people can figure out what to bring based on what others might be bringing.  If someone is able to donate a second projector for the day, we can watch multiple things in multiple rooms!!!! – We can watch the original series in one room, and the prequel series in the other room.  We will need dark sheets to cover the windows – does anyone have lots of spare dark sheets?

Ascension Day Steak & Wine Dinner is Thursday, May 9, 2013.  Sung Mass at 6PM.  Steak & Wine Dinner at 7PM.  A signup sheet will be in the hallway this Sunday.  We are looking for sponsors to help pay for the steak.  We need approximately $300 (broken up in twelve $25 sponsors.)  If you are interested in sponsoring the steak, please let me know ASAP.  You can write a check to Good Shepherd (MEMO “Fellowship Fund”), but it is helpful for planning purposes to know how many sponsors we have.  Wine/Beer are potluck.  All Sides are potluck.  We need 2-3 Weber Grills (if you can loan us your grill for the day, please let Father Matt know).

SODA & JUICE AT EVENTS.  If you are bringing soda to a church event, it is more helpful if we have cans than 2-liter bottles.  We end up opening too many bottles and much of the soda is wasted since we don’t have events every day and we don’t have the space to store soda bottles in our fridge.  If you are bringing juice for the kids, please consider juice boxes (that do not need to be refrigerated) for the same reason.
