Confirmation & Reception

“Confirmation is the rite in which we express a mature commitment to Christ, and receive strength from the Holy Spirit through prayer and the laying on of hands by a bishop.” (The Book of Common Prayer). Usually Confirmation is administered on those Feasts of the church year when Baptism is celebrated (Easter Vigil, Pentecost, All Saints’, Baptism of Our Lord).

Reception is the rite when a Christian who has already been baptized and confirmed is received by the Bishop into the Episcopal Church.  We recognize the sacrament of baptism and the sacramental rite of confirmation that was administered by a bishop in another denomination.  The rites of confirmation and reception are quite similar.

If you are interested in being confirmed or received at Good Shepherd please contact the rector.
