Live from Holy Cross Monastery

Hi everyone,
The 2nd annual Good Shepherd retreat to Holy Cross Monastery is in full swing! We’re having a great time, participating in the life of the monastery.

We’ve just finished a theological reflection and this is the collect we wrote together at the end. Amazing!

Please keep us in your prayers, as you are in ours.

Peace to you all.IMG950061

Our Twelfth Night Celebration – Tonight at 5:30 PM!

epiphany

Come to Good Shepherd tonight for our fun Twelfth Night celebration!

We are starting with a Rite 3 Eucharist at 5:30 PM to be followed by a potluck dinner, BINGO and a visit from the 3 Magi in the parish hall. We request that each family attending bring the following:
– A dish to share
– A gift for each of your children so the Kings have something to deliver
– A gift for the “baby Jesus” such as diapers, baby food or formula, or $5 gift cards for groceries or gas. These donations will go to the Putnam/Northern Westchester Women’s Resource Center, and will make life easier for the women and mothers supported by the shelter. If you can’t attend 12th Night you can bring your donation to church anytime this month. Thank you.

It is going to be a fun night and we hope to see you there!

Are You “Weather Ready”?
Learn how to become ready for severe weather on Sunday, December 16 during coffee hour.
The High School Youth Group invites you to a presentation by one of our alumni, Katie McKeown, about how to be ready for severe weather. Katie is a meteorology student and a member of the Meteorology Society. She has given this presentation to community groups and wanted to offer it to the High School Youth Group. We thought it would be important information for everyone to hear! We will provide a yummy coffee hour and we can all learn about weather preparedness from Katie! We hope you will join us.

Outreach – Giving Tree
The tabletop Christmas Tree in the breezeway is our only specific outreach this Advent season. The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem operates 14 schools in Palestine, Israel and Jordan, two major hospitals, four outpatient clinics, mobile clinics and four institutions supporting children and adults with disabilities. No one is denied attention because they cannot pay. Government grants have been slashed. Please give what you can to support our church’s work in our Holy Land. Further information can be found at www.AFEDJ.org.

Christmas Schedule
Monday, December 24 – Christmas Eve Day
4:30 pm Christmas Eve Family Service
7:30 pm Carols & Anthems
8 pm Christmas Eve Eucharist with choir and music

Tuesday, December 25 – Christmas Day

See you Sunday!

TONIGHT: Quieter Advent service

Please join us tonight at 7:00 pm for our Quieter Christmas prayer service. This is a candlelit service of prayer and traditional Advent hymns wherein we pray for those we love (and perhaps have lost) and where we experience the power of Advent but in a softer way. No demands for forced cheer at this service; this service lets us feel all our feelings and invites us to lay them in the loving arms of God. It’s perfect for those who find the hyper-commercialization of the secular Christmas season just too much to bear.

A simple supper will be offered at 6:30 pm. You don’t need to bring anything, just show up and be nourished in body and soul.

All in the community are warmly invited to attend. Invite a friend, and come experience this lovely and peaceful time.

Also this weekend:

Our awesome Christmas Bazaar is tomorrow!

The Christmas Bazaar is this Saturday, 12/8!

The day is almost here! – Our Annual Christmas Bazaar is taking place on Saturday, December 8th from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. It’s always great fun for everyone.

We’re looking forward to tasting your delicious cookies, brownies, cupcakes, cakes, pies, breads, candies. All are greatly appreciated for our bake table, which is always a big hit. You can bring them on Friday Dec. 7th or Saturday morning.

Thank you for all your donations of new or gently used Christmas-themed items for the Boutique table. You can still drop things off Friday or even on Saturday morning. These can be gift items, Christmas decorations, knick-knacks, jewelry, etc.

Elves will be working on Friday during the day setting up, so if you are able to drop by to help display and price items, we would love the help. (Noon until 4 pm, then after 7pm)

Volunteers are needed to help with selling at the tables on Saturday during the bazaar. Any time you can give is appreciated and will give others a break and a chance to enjoy the day as well.

Please feel free to bring any of your craft or home made items to add to the craft/gift table. Or if you would like to put together a small themed gift basket to sell, that would be great as well.

Save the Date – Come shop — Have Fun – Be sure to tell all your family and friends.

Thank you all for your help and support – Hope to see you there!

Arleen Flury – Bazaar Chairperson
