Patricia Katz Funeral Tomorrow

Dear Friends,

Pat Katz’ Funeral will be at 2PM this Saturday, February 23, at the Church of the Good Shepherd. We need ushers and altar servers for the service, and if possible acolytes too. If you are available to serve or usher, please let me know. The service will be followed by a reception in our parish hall. All are invited. Your prayers and presence are requested.

Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And when I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way where I am going.” Father of all, we pray to you for those we love, but see no longer: Grant them your peace; let light perpetual shine upon them; and, in your loving wisdom and almighty power, work in them the good purpose of your perfect will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Brother Emil Denworth, FMS, died at his home, Champagnat Hall, Bronx, New York, on Monday, February 18, 2013, after a long illness.  A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Thursday, at 7:00 PM, in the Chapel of Mount Saint Michael Academy.  A Requiem Mass is to be celebrated at The Church of Saint Mary the Virgin, Times Square, at a later date (TBD).  Father Matt will be at both of those services.  May God bless Emil and keep him.  Remember, O gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.

Sad News: RIP Pat Katz

Dear Friends,

I am sorry to bring you sad news. Today Patricia Katz died. She had been gravely ill in the hospital for 2 weeks. She was with her grandson and son-in-law when she died. She will be greatly missed.

Arrangements for a funeral are being made. The funeral will be at Good Shepherd; the tentative date is Saturday, February 23. There will be no wake. When I have final details I will let you know. Pat is survived by her grandsons, several cousins, her son-in-law, and her cat Pooky. If you think you might be able to give Pooky a good home, please let me know.

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant Pat. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Bless her and keep her, and may the angels lead her this day into paradise to rejoice with all the saints in the presence of Almighty God. May her soul and the souls of all the departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Sunday School Lenten Outreach for CCNW

Lent 2013

Dear Good Shepherd Parishioners,

During Lent, which begins on February 13th, the Sunday School will be collecting toiletries for the Community Center of Northern Westchester (CCNW).   We are requesting that donations of full-sized shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and deodorant be brought to church by Easter Sunday.  A collection box will be available at church near the food pantry basket.  The items will be packed into gift bags that have been beautifully decorated by the children and delivered to CCNW.   The Center was so appreciative of this project last Easter and was thrilled to hear that we planned to repeat it!

As most of you know, CCNW serves many local families (1,800 families in 2011) who are struggling to make ends meet.  We are very fortunate to be able to help in such a tangible, hands-on way and to share this experience with our children.

Please help us with this project by bringing toiletries to church from now until Easter.  Thank you so much for your generous support!
